Fashion is increasingly being made from plastic.

Synthetic fibres derived from fossil fuels now account for 69% of global textile production, and this is projected to reach 73% by 2030. A 2024 Changing Markets investigation of 50 major fashion brands, worth more than $1 trillion combined, found widespread reliance on synthetic fibres, limited transparency and industry tactics that delay meaningful action.

SHEIN stands out: 81,70% of the fibres in its garment portfolio are synthetic.

Plastic doesn’t belong in your body

Thousands of peer-reviewed research reports have been published highlighing the plastic chemicals that cause infertility, cancer, cognitive disorders and auto-immune disease. Yet global rules are missing. Without action, plastic production will triple by 2040.

RIVM: PFAS detected in all breast milk samples

New research by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) shows that PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) were detected in all breast milk samples analysed. The study, which included 1,629 women from across the Netherlands, shows that four PFAS compounds are the most commonly found. In addition, PFAS concentrations in 18% of the breast milk samples exceed the health-based guidance value.
